Missed Waste collections Tuesday 22nd January

Message from the Bromley Webpage

Although our waste collection crews have tried to complete Monday and Tuesday's scheduled refuse and recycling collections, unfortunately, the weather conditions have prevented some collections taking place. If your scheduled Monday or Tuesday collection has been missed, please continue to leave your waste out for collection and we will attempt to collect it later in the week, ideally on Wednesday.  If only the paper collection has been missed, please leave this out for collection next week.

Normally, our collection crews 'push' and 'pull' two wheelie bins and collect both paper and food at the same time.  We regret that weather conditions have meant that our crews could not 'push' and 'pull' both collection bins.  Therefore food waste collections were prioritised, with paper collections being missed. We will update this message with additional information on Wednesday.

Therefore paper bins should be taken back in and brought out again as normal next week.

Oaktree Gardens Snow Buddies

This message from Ned McWhirter shows what can be achieved if everyone clears their own stretch of footpath.

Can you please pass on our thanks to all the snow buddies of Oaktree Gardens.  Before I left for work on Monday I cleared mine and the next door neighbours steps, but imagine my surprise when I came home to see a clear strip on the paving on both sides the whole length of the street enabling safe passage.
Great job well done and I would like to let them know that it made a big difference and very much appreciated.

It is a pity that so few other people seem to have left it for the council to clear the footways.

Plan for policing in Bromley 2013 to 2017

On Wednesday, 9 January the Deputy Mayor, Stephen Greenhalgh, together with the Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackie and Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne launched a series of public consultations from the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) across each of London’s 32 boroughs.
The consultations detail the Mayors plans for police and crime across London, including ways to deliver savings and improvements for local policing to ensure that police resources are focused on the front line and delivering policing to London’s communities.
They will also explain the changes the Met will make to its local policing including an increase of 1200 officers working on boroughs. The foundation of local policing will be our enhanced Safer Neighbourhoods teams and the proposal to move 2600 officers back onto the streets from other roles. This will allow these teams to be more accessible, flexible and will use all available crime fighting tactics to investigate crime and catch more local criminals.
Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne said: “We are determined to be the best police service for London - that’s why we need to change. We will be putting more officers into local policing across the capital and devoting more to our Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.
“We are changing the emphasis of what we do. Neighbourhood policing will be the foundation of the service we provide.”
A series of public meetings hosted by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Stephen Greenhalgh and Assistant Commssioner for Territorial Policing Simon Byrne will be held in every borough over the course of January and February, giving the public their chance to hear more about the proposed changes and ask questions. There will also be an online questionnaire for the public to give their views on the plans.
The consultation ends on 5 March and any feedback will be used to inform the final draft of MOPACs plans.
More information is available on the MOPAC website to understand more about the plans, find out when the public meeting will be taking place in your community and have your say about the say on the proposals.

Borough Commander Steph Roberts’ New Year message

Bromley Borogh Commander Steph Roberts

"During the last 12 months the Metropolitan Police Service has handled some of the biggest major events in its history with the delivery of a safe and secure Queen’s Diamond Jubilee followed quickly by the Olympic and Paralympic Games – and all this combined with the regular demands of policing the UK's capital city. Here in Bromley in the last year we have investigated over 20,800 Allegations of crime, arresting nearly 8,000 people.
Whilst crime is still going down, residential burglary has increased. I appeal for householders to be vigilant. Lock your doors and windows, and please do not leave your car keys by the front door. Please do not leave valuables in your car either. These two simple things would help to reduce crime in Bromley. Car crime and burglary account for almost 30% of our total crime. Your vigilance can make a difference.
"I wish you a happy, safe and prosperous New Year".
Policing is going through some big changes and we venture into major change in 2013 with the challenge of making savings whilst maintaining public confidence. The challenge of crime never stops changing – just like London and the world we live in – so we must change too in order to provide a smarter, faster and more accessible service. The new Metropolitan Police Service will be leaner and better value for money. Our ultimate aim is to be the best police service – at cutting crime, catching criminals and being there when the public need us.
However, the fundamental principle of what we do will never change. I know you rely on us to respond quickly and effectively when you need us and that remains the number one priority for everyone working for Bromley Police.
It is important to me that we continue to work tirelessly to keep Bromley safe throughout 2013. It is still a great place to live, work and visit. I want to keep it that way.
I wish you a happy, safe and prosperous New Year".
Steph Roberts,
Borough Commander
Bromley
