Dear Resident

IMPORTANT AMENDMENTS TO THE PROPOSED RE-DEVELOPMENT OF
87-93 OAK TREE GARDENS

Amended plans have now been submitted for the following planning application to Bromley
Council for the re-development of the site occupied by Nos 87, 89, 91 and 93 Oak Tree Gardens at the corner with Portland Road:

Redevelopment of land at rear of Nos. 87-93 Oak Tree Gardens to include demolition of No.
91 and retention of No. 89 with minor alterations to roof and Erection of eight 2 1/2 storey, 4
bedroom houses comprising of two terraces of 3 houses, one pair of semi detached houses
and one detached single garage; associated access, parking, landscaping, cycle storage,
refuse and recycling provision.

The amended plans appear to involve:

•  The demolition of the house on the site at No 89 in addition to the house at
  No 91;
•  5 additional car parking spaces;
•  Changes to drainage which require further clarification.

LERA is continuing to oppose the amended application on the following grounds:

• The additional pressures on the drainage and sewerage systems which are alreadystruggling to cope with the existing houses on the Estate, and the increased risks of floodingand potential sewerage backup affecting existing houses; and
• The increased traffic movements on an already busy and potentially dangerous corner.

using the Search Planning Applications service at www.bromley.gov.uk/planningaccess and searching on Oak Tree Gardens. If you wish to make any comments on the amended application, the plans and other documents submitted with it, please ensure that you do
this by  WEDNESDAY 10 JUNE 2015; otherwise the Council will assume that you have no comments.

REMINDER OF LERA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

To be held on Tuesday 19 May 2015 in St Andrew’s Community Hall (Main Hall), Burnt Ash Lane, starting at 7 30 pm

We are delighted that we will be holding our AGM this year in the new Community Hall. We do hope that you will able to attend the meeting and experience this important new local amenity. Even if you are not currently a member of LERA, you are very welcome to join us.

The AGM provides an excellent opportunity for our members to get together to talk about local issues and hear from speakers representing community services. This year we will be electing a new Chair for a 3 year term as Iliya Ingram, who was elected last year, had to resign as she moved away from the Estate. We are pleased that Stephen Hodges of Leamington Close has agreed to stand for this post. Also, Diane Bex and I will be standing for re-election to our respective posts as Treasurer and Secretary.

During the past year we have continued to work on behalf of our members to ensure that LERA has a voice in community affairs and to promote improvements to the safety and cleanliness of our Estate. We have maintained our engagement with our local Councillors and Bromley Council on a variety of issues, and contributed to public consultations on such topics as the Council’s budget planning and maintenance of the Borough’s trees.

Bromley Council is seeking community groups and organisations to manage one or more of the following libraries:

• Burnt Ash
• Hayes
• Mottingham
• Shortlands
• Southborough
• St Paul's Cray

We are  keen to work alongside community groups to provide tailored library services and there is an opportunity for communities to think creatively and innovatively about how they could better deliver library services for their benefit. 

The council welcomes proposals that provide benefit to your group or organisation as well as the wider community.

If you are interested in managing one or more of these libraries, you can find out more by downloading an information pack.

To register your interest, you should download, complete and return an application form using ProContract the council's e-procurement system.

Hedgehog Awareness Week - How Can You Help?

Hedgehog Awareness Week runs from 3rd-9th May 2015 and lots of hedgehoggy events are being organised all around the country!

Hedgehog Awareness Week is organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and takes place every year. It aims to highlight the problems hedgehogs face and how you can help them.

The information below is a plea from them and together, we can all make a huge difference.



This year efforts are focussed on gardeners - there is so much that we as gardeners can do to help the hedgehog, very simple things like:

• Ensuring there is access into the garden (all that is needed is 5" square gap).
• Checking areas before strimming or mowing.
• Moving piles of rubbish to a new site before burning it.
• Ensuring netting is kept at a safe height.
• Checking compost heaps before digging the fork in.
• Stopping or reducing the amount of pesticides and poisons used.
• Covering drains or deep holes.
• Ensuring there is an easy route out of ponds and pools.

So you can do something this week to make a difference to these gorgeous little creatures.
