Burnt Ash Drama in February 2020
‘A beautiful,
bittersweet comedy set in Deep South Louisiana; "Steel
Magnolias" tells the story of six very special friends bonded together
by mutual triumphs and tragedies.
Despite their differences,
beautiful and independent Shelby, her strong-willed, protective
mother M’Lynn, beauty parlour owner Truly, elegant wealthy widow, Clairee,
sharp-tongued Ouiser and mousey newcomer Annelle enjoy a friendship that spans
the boundaries of age and status.
Sharing each other's strength and loyalty,
these six remarkable women survive the cycles of life, birth and death to
emerge stronger, closer and still laughing.’
Louise Brown who plays the character of Shelby who
suffers from Type 1 diabetes also suffers from the condition herself. She says
...........
“....
I have been diagnosed as type 1 for two years and I can honestly say it is an
illness that never gives you a break. It is something you have to think
about every second of every day to make sure you are giving the right amount of
insulin with every single meal because if you don’t the results could be
fatal. However, playing Shelby has made me realise how lucky I am to be
diabetic in this era as back in the 80s and even before that research wasn’t
where it is now and type 1 diabetes was a lot harder to manage and we see the
consequences in Steel Magnolias.’
