Queen's Diamond Jubilee Event 15th May

Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting Bromley town centre in the morning. They will attend a preview of a special public event to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in Bromley before visiting the Glades Shopping Centre and Bromley High Street . Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will arrive in Bromley town centre at 10:30am and attend a preview of a special public event in Queens Gardens, to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee . They will visit the Glades Shopping Centre and Bromley High Street, before leaving at 11:30am.

Where can I stand to see the Queen and the Duke?

• Tweedy Road from the junction with London Road - for their arrival
• All along Kentish Way up to the Queen's Gardens entrance - for their arrival
• All along the High Street from Market Square to Bromley South Station for their departure

As it may be raining you might consider visiting a National Trust or English Heritage Property. The nearest NT one is The Red House, (Iconic Arts and Crafts home of William Morris -- writer, artist, craftsman and socialist.) The nearest EH one is Eltham Palace (Millionaires Stephen and Virginia Courtauld built their 1930s Art Deco mansion by the Great Hall of medieval Eltham Palace and created a masterpiece of 20th-century design.)

MEETING OF COMMUNITY DAY PLANNING GROUP 30th April

30th April 2012, 12.30 pm,. Tony’s shop
Present : Tony Isbitt, Liz davis, Ned McWhirter
Items discussed :

1. Security/stewarding/
Council want us to have 20 stewards. So far we have 2. We need to pick up more asap, particularly at the next Safer Neighbourhood Panel meeting 24th May.
Dave B has offered advice & help –Tony will contact him. ACTION ; TONY

2. Insurance. Public Liability Insurance is needed. Commercial enterprises, ie Roundabouts, Bouncy Castles, etc. will have their own insurance. We need insurance for the non-commercial people. Ned is speaking to a broker who should come up with an offer ACTION ; NED

3.Trailer for the displays. Tony is still hopeful of getting some sort of trailer to be the stage for our bands, and singers. ACTION ; TONY
Meanwhile Ned is working on finding staging which we can use in case we do not get a trailer. Ned to keep us informed. ACTION ; NED

4.Matting for the displays, Judo, boxing, dance groups etc. : Jusb can lend this.

5. Crystal Palace Football Club. This was felt by all to be a big attraction to people.
Ned and Liz had met with Rob Perrett from Crystal Palace FC Foundation, who has offered to come along with a stall and 2 coaches, who will do 2beat the Goalie” and timed goal shooting, plus organise the races for us. The cost is £250, but it was agreed this is worth spending. Liz will book them ACTION ; LIZ

6.Tents, marquees, etc. We have arranged for the 25th Scout Group to lend and erect a large marquees, and a smaller one, on the day. Tony would like 2 more large tens.
Which we could use for changing, for hospitality and for the PA system if wet.
Tony will ask Waitrose if they would sponsor the hospitality in some way
Ned will contact a Scout leader he knows to try to get more tentage.

7.Poster and Publicity. Tony told us that a friend of his daughter has offered to do the artwork for a poster. We agreed good publicity is vital to attract the numbers of people we need. We discussed the wording which should be on the poster/flyers, and agreed to have a banner printed as well, which hopefully can be suspended over the Park entrance, from the Working Men’s Club balcony to the tree in the Library grounds.
Tony will contact the artwork person with our suggested wording.

It was agreed that we will also need a leaflet detailing the day’s timetable of events, and names of people who have sponsored the event. This will be produced nearer the time

8. Forms for the Council. These need to be completed at least 2 weeks before the event. We will ask for volunteers to help fill them in at the next SNP 24th May.

Bromley Police launch Twitter Feed

If you use Twitter then you may like to check out the new twitter feed set up by Bromley Police. Do be warned that some of the tweets by the public may not be favourable to the Police. The following press release explains what they intend to achieve.


Bromley Police have launched a new Twitter feed - @MPSBromley - to keep the community more in touch with the policing of the borough. The Twitter feed which was launched today will act as a route to provide up-to-date information for the local community.

They will post updates between 7am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday and include public safety information, crime prevention information, crime appeals, local updates and success stories, along with other information which the Metropolitan Police and local residents consider important.

Borough Commander Steph Roberts said “I am delighted that we now have a dedicated Twitter service allowing us to communicate to our residents and followers about the work we do. @MPSBromley is still in its early days but our followers are growing and the response so far has been very positive. If want to be kept up-to-date about policing in Bromley why not start following us now”.

Followers are reminded that they cannot report crime over Twitter, they must call either 999 for emergencies or 101 for non-emergency calls.

If you follow us, you can expect tweets covering some or all of the following:

• Operational updates about the policing of events 
• News about how the MPS is policing the borough, major criminal investigations and prosecutions. 
• Appeals for information and assistance from the public relating to the borough.

Burnt Ash Library Reading Group May

Hazardous parking near the railway bridge in New Street Hill

There is an increasing problem resulting from cars parking opposite numbers 17 - 25 in New Street Hill.

Although allotment holders have a gated entrance into the allotments some are parking in this part of the road and some people may be parking their cars here and going elsewhere to work. At the moment there are often builders vehicles parked outside the house which is being renovated. Residents of houses around these parked cars are having problems reversing safely out of their drives.

In addition, on business days, the spaces in the area provided on the other side of the bridge are fully used. Vehicles coming under the bridge may end up on the wrong side of the road and  are confronted with cars parked on both sides of the road and other cars coming towards the bridge from the estate.

On Monday a resident's car from 17 New Street Hill was hit due to the congested road. All drivers using this section of road need to take extra care to avoid any further accidents.
